Had my first ever Starbucks Gig performance. Never thought I would be able to have done what I did. Honestly, I was really lucky to have gotten into Voices. My audition was lousy; I had screwed up high notes, out of tune singing and i-don't-know-what-I-am-playing jazz song on the keyboard. Thankfully, they gave me a second chance.
Being in Voices wasn't all that easy too. Every single one of them was much more talented than me in any aspect. I was afraid of the seniors, I was worried that I will bring down the band, I felt like I was just dispensable. I had a down period where I simply felt that without me, they could carry on just right, maybe even better. I almost gave up.
But I really appreciate how from the start, the people were willing to teach me. Tere was the first to teach me how to sing properly and better. Wei Liang was the first who had confidence that I too, will be able to sing well in future. Never have anyone told me and affirmed me so many times that if I continue to learn and work hard, I'll be good in future. He gave me a goal to achieve: make a debut appearance at Starbucks gig October 2013. Shermaine was the first to affirm my keyboard-ing skills. She assured that I just have to keep trying and take it slow. One day, I'll be able to play like her.
This sem's starbucks gig; I was really unsure about performing because I felt really insecure about my skills. Yvonne gave me the heads up to do it and even ask me to sign up if I really wanted to perform. And eventually, it was Teresa's initiative that I felt more confident in everything. She really gave me a challenge that I am glad I took on. Stefanie Sun's medley, Ann's song, Jolin's song. The little time I had pushed me further than I expected and I definitely learnt alot. She gave me the courage to sing my first ever song in public as well. Plus, it's playing and singing at the same time! I could really feel my legs wobbling during that one song. But nevertheless, the performance was worth much more than just a simple vocal + instrument song. It was the start of something new.
One thing I am glad to say: I achieved the target that Wei Liang set for me in a much shorter time than expected and I am thankful for every single person who taught, helped, believed and encouraged me.
I'll definitely strive to improve more in every aspect I can and will not let anyone of those who had confidence in me down. :)
Lots and lots of gratitude
