College Day 2011

3 years..... I finally received this..... Behind this plague contains alot of memories. All the long practices, spring cleaning, cca records, instructors' forms, ding's house, performances.... This award certainly holds alot. Thank you laoshi, for giving me this award even though you could have chosen not to. Deeply appreciated and kept in my heart. ;-)

I had a talk with ms lim and mrs tan during refreshments... first time chatting so long with her ever since she's back... She ate 3 plates of food in the time span of me eating 1 plate. And it's not like i took alot of food..... LOL. she said she need to get home by 6 if not she'll fall sick.. so Left me and mrs tan.. we talked for the longest time ever seriously. I think majority of the people all left already except those councillors and event in charges. Nice chat i must say.

Ms Lim and Mrs tan say next year i must come back here and they will clap doubly hard for me. haha. Oh and alot people keep asking me why never see me on stage. :)

NOOBS TALK!

I was just chatting with noobling on msn just now! hahaha. so funny! And we talked about things we missed bout school! Can totally remember the days when we will walk to serangoon MRT together after school cos Circle Line wasn't ready at that time. the 15 mins walk is always full of nonsense one! We came up with lame things like Gary's pet.

Can remember how we put our chemistry knowledge to use in our nonsense too! ;-)

On a side note, I saw Ms Lim today! She came back from maternity leave alr! Omg very short break man. When i saw her, i literally jump! I ran from the library to the staircase! Really very excited to see her after 'so long'. I know she came back on tues alr and managed to see her around but no chance to say hi! haha. she's as funny as before.

I said: So long never see you alr!
She replied: Not very long ah! 56 days only!

hahahaha it's just so her!! and omg, her baby is really very cute and good-looking. Seriously, i know babies all look the same but me and noob just can't help to notice that this little baby of Ms Lim, is just so good-looking. Got the charisma leh! Look Below:

Really cute plus good-looking plus charismatic can! Im So in love with him! BTW, his name is Dylan Tan.

Okay, enough of the fangirling of a baby who is merely 1 and half months old. hahaha.

Your choice makes a difference....

Exco interviews after Vball match. Had pretty much thoughts. Im not entirely happy/agreeable to the list but i think it will be a great exco.
My thought of the day:
we make choices everyday, and these choices lead us along in our lives. Be it right or wrong, we chose it and made it this way, so we'll have to live and make do with it.
Our choices can change someone else's life too....

During discussion, one of the point brought up was, we made a few wrong choices last year. Some of the exco members were not committed and competent enough and i thought about it.
Last year, we decided to give chance to people; we judge them by their covers. Thinking about how we saw the person as competent and committed but yet, was proven wrong, makes me realized that our choices can affect the people around us. Maybe, this is just life and we have to just get over it.

BUT, that would means that we have to think carefully before deciding in future. I may not agree on the final exco list but i know that AT LEAST, we gave chances to people. And I know that although there may be those who will prove us wrong, this new batch of EXCO will be awesome and do a fantastic job.

Final list of exco:

President: Sun Chang
V-President: Shi Jing
Secretary: Cheryl
QM Scores: Ming Wei
QM Instruments: Juin Ying, Jun Tian
Percussion SL: Wei Jie
Dizi SL: Juan Ning
Guanyue SL: Huan Wen
Huqin SL: Rui Xiang
Cello/Bass SL: Choon Wang
Plucking SL: Angelia
Student Conductor: Jia Qing
AdHoc: Xinling, Misha, Minyu

Volleyball Finals!

It was the VBALL finals today! Girls team went all the way to the finals. The school gave us a few hours off and sent majority of the J2s to toa payoh stadium to watch the match. We were against Hwa Chong! I must say the girls team really put up a good show. in the final set, it was 25-8! NYJC rocks! :)

NYCO GOLD WITH HONOURS 2011!

WE'VE ACHIEVED IT YET AGAIN!

"编号2 南洋初级学院 nanyang junior college, Gold with Honours!" *Screamsssss

The feeling is so surreal...... Its feels like yesterday that all these started. But it ended a few hours ago.

Yesterday night, i was feeling a little excited yet alittle sad by the fact that we are coming to an end. I slept at 11pm, woke up at 2am thinking it was 5 alr, checked my phone and went back to sleep. I woke up at 445am again and slack till 510am. I hardly wake up this early and i must say, i really enjoyed it in some way.

I did my hair, contact lens and my bag before leaving the house at 530am and reached school around 6am. We had some warm up ourselves before ding came to rehearse with us. She only had half an hour but she spent about 25mins on Yang Fan! only 5 mins for huang he!

We then moved the instruments onto the lorry while the rest went to the fountain to board the bus. We headed for SCH. in the bus, we were eating bread before deanna started helping all the daji girls to put makeup. she is really the pro!

Reached SCH, it was still pretty early. So i was going between the concourse and the cargo life area. Talked to many people, zihui, wenleng and mr yeo etc. Lent xinling a pin and off they go to tuning room. I saw huiyi as well.

While at the cargo lift, we waited to go up and took pictures. Went up and we still had time because the competition haven even started yet. I saw wu laoshi and mr yeo talking to i walked towards them. so they had a little chat about me like wu laoshi say im not bad while mr yeo give that diao face. Then i started talking to mr yeo when wu laoshi went to the other side. We talked about KC and NYJC. I told him i not bad one okay, must like thank him cos he was the first one to reconmend me join percussion? then mr ngoh came and he really so funny. I tried to test him see he remember which school im from and he was like, that one la that one. LOL. While talking to mr yeo, one of the girls from NUS high school came over and told me yeo: "老师,她们的打击乐很多leh,好恐怖." And he was like, they fake fake one, for show only. since i wanted to be nice, i just nod my head and say ya ya, true true.LOL.

then went to the toilet and talked to zhiming, deanna and yuxin. Then NUS high school went on stage, and i was talking to wu laoshi. Recounted how i cried last syf, how we gonna set up daji interest group etc. then we were commenting on their yang fan... not very good i must say. they only have 24 people!

then our turn to go up stage, the first person i saw was Mr lee! then moved the yun luo and took our mallets out. While walking to the glock, ding was just infront downstage so i gave her the thumbs up sign! hehehe. Then we started performing. Omg, srsly, my hand was shaking when we started yang fan! i so scared cannot hit man! lucky still okay. then yang fan the middle section i missed a few notes here and there but not too bad. at the end i really smiled cos very 感动.

then huang he, started not bad but got one part alittle messy. then at the end, omg, i dont know why but the timpani the note not right! scare me! lucky it sounded okay in the recording! and i think i did alright. cleared the stage and that was the end of our performance.

then we cleared and went down. the lorry haven come so we waited. i went to the front to get my bag from zihui and CO was taking a photo! with mr kwek, ms chee and the instructors and teachers. so i just joined in. After the photo, ding laoshi gave me a hug, i nearly cried. So 感动really! then i went back to the cargo area. lorry came, i went to clal reinforcement( julian) at the concourse, and i saw mr goh and mr poh! LOL. mr goh's first line was “eh, you still performing?" paiseh. then talk to him, ask him about whether he leaving and say like he always say if don't get gold then he will leave.... took a pic and went back. basically the guys were loading so the girls weren't exactly needed so we headed for the bus.

the bus uncle so annoying, everyone must sit down then he will move. then we watched the recording zihui helped us record in my phone. Nice leh! then ms tan and ms tan was like, can go make a pirated SYF compilation album 11!

Reached by school, move instruments back in CO room. Went to LT4 and slack abit before packing all our stuff and leaving the LT4 to change. LT4, was literally our 2nd home for the last few weeks; i haven been back to the CO room since 30th april. Ms tan agree as well. will really miss practicing in there. Me jumping up and there the step. lol.

Changed and junior were playing frisbee, as usual. =.= then we stayed around for quite long before deciding to head to Marina Sq. wanted to go seoul garden but ended up at manhattan fish market. Treated the juniors with 7 other seniors. deanna treated the seniors but not me. :( haha.
Then went to arcade, played for about an hour before heading to SCH.

Zhiming, Louis and I were giving the privilege of having tickets cos priority was given to J2/Exco. So we could go in. then just before admission starts, mr lin passed me 3 tickets so i went to pass to deanna, yuxin and shiwee. everyone was jammed! srsly, cannot even get out. then in the end, shiwee and yuxin couldnt come in cos their ticket is for morning! LOL. but in the end they managed to. then we collected tickets for deanna to go fetch some ppl in. then we collected 3 more tickets for simon, renyi and huiquan. thought cannot go out but in the end, managed to go out la. so funny, me and deanna will pretend to call each other and answer the phone so that we can go out. LOL.

then the dialogue session was abit long. wasn't really listening that much but heard here and there. the last adjundicator is nice, end the whole dialogue session with just a few lines! haha. then a video by the composer of Yang Fan, Wang Chen wei was shown. He's currently studying music in Vienna so can't come. not bad leh. but he like put his script above the camera, super obvious. then was results.

We screamed at the instance when results were announced. then recorded the rest of the results. This year major shock. Schools like Anderson, Temasek, Duman High all only get Gold. Then Victoria only silver? so unexpected. Oh well, was really glad we are one of the 3 to get Gold With Honours. The other 2 is Hwa Chong and Raffles.

then we starting to go out, somehow, tears start to well up alr. but held on. until wu laoshi saw me then he was like, aiya, 哭了. then we walked down to the open space to take photo. the rest of NYCO came. Ding saw me and she was like aiya 你啊,怎么那么不行啊? lol. then she hugged me again. then alot ppl came, zihui, wenleng, VERON! then still have huiquan, junxi all came to hug! hehe., percussion took a group pic with wu laoshi and ding then NYCO took a group pic on the staircase. then we 解散. vivian, janice and I wanted to prank ms chen but she refused to pick up our call! so we left. daji was aimlessly walking to the mrt. then at the mrt, we stood there to decide where to go. then ms chen msg us. So we called her. the rest of daji left without us. started off the conversation first.
Me: laoshi, we only got gold leh. *sniff sniff*
C: hah, really?
Me: yeah lor, gold only *sniff
C: oh but how many gwhs are there this year?
Me: Only 3.
C:then gold leh?
Me: eh this year quite alot of gold but i dont know how many......
C: oh... okay...
Me: wait ah, Vivian wants to talk to you
V: LAOSHI!!! gold only leh. like after all the hardwork only gold.
*I don't know what she tell vivian.
V: but it's gold only.. *whining away.
then we passed the phone to janice.
J: laoshi, im fan xiang. yeah only gold lor....
*unknown
J: like that your extension for me is like 白费了....
* Phone comes back to me.
Me: yea so quite sad la....
*ms chen wanted to talk but i interrupted.
Me: laoshi, we want tell you something, you wait ah,
*vivian tells me to put phone in front.
Me: actually..... we got
us: GOLD WITH HONOURS!

omg srsly, all the ppl at the mrt, literally all, was looking at us!then we walked and i talked to laoshi. she say so it's good she never wish us at all. And it is till then that i realized, the reason why she dont want to come watch us, dont even want to reply us when we msg her ytr and not even a word of encouragement the day before syf, was because, she say she very unlucky this year. Whoever she wish, will be bad luck. Like cause she wished band, they got silver. she didnt even wish ms tan or anyone of the CO teachers as well.

My reaction was like, please, it is not accurate one lor. and she isn't convince about it. anw, we talked in the train and when we were at raffles place, we can hear her but she can't hear us. so she keep saying hello? 我听不到你们? for like quite long sia! Like one station's time. then when we reach raffles place then we were like, sorry we underground. so funny keep hearing her saying hello. lol. vivian alighted at city hall and i took train to kembangan before dad fetched me home.

That's about the itineary for today? reflections soon.... :)

General Elections 2011 - Tin Pei Ling VS Nicole Seah

For General Elections 2011, my eyes were caught on a few people. I'll be blogging news about this few possible MPs of Singapore for the next few days.

The first one will be Tin Pei Ling from MARINE PARADE GRC, together with SM Goh Chok Tong. Alot of people have been attacking her for her Kate Spade Bag, saying that she is materialistic as well as imposing the idea that she is 'acting cute'.

Personally, how a person look is not how one wants to look. Yes, to certain degree, one can alter their look through hairstyle and dressing sense etc. but i feel that in TPL's case, she is very natural. Maybe her face just has the 'cute' element and as we all can see in the pictures, her hairstyle is simple. So i don't believe she is acting cute but it is more of a natural thing, which is good.

Next, My stand for this GE is that, the Opposition parties are contesting PAP for the sake of opposing. Look at all the points raised by the opposition parties out there, many are useless and not feasible ideas. I feel that Nicole Seah, the opposition that is often brought to be compared with TPL, has potential, but in PAP. National Solidarity Party seems to be letting Nicole Seah do all the campaigning because she is already famous w regards to the comparison to TPL. No doubt Nicole Seah speaks better than TPL and is prettier, but i feel that she don't really have a future in NSP. SOME of her ideas are pretty relevant but similarly, there are those that are not.

Let's look at it deeper, the seats in parliament are generally filled by PAP, so if the opposition parties' ideas are strongly conflicting with PAP's, can they really get it through if they are elected into the Parliament? What more, NSP's manifesto is not strong enough to compare with PAP. Decrease GST rates? Seriously, think of how GST has helped the economy to prosper. During the global financial crisis in 2009, countries worldwide were hit badly. Yet, Singapore recovered fast because of the reserves in the bank. Our Taxes may seem to be a burden or a hassle to us now but in times of need, it provides help to us.

Okay, enough said. My stand is clear, I'd rather TPL get elected over Nicole Seah. I do not doubt Nicole Seah's abilities as a MP but being in NSP is just detrimental. So the following two articles and photos are on Tin Pei Ling

A day in the life of Tin Pei Ling

April 30, 2011 - 9:32pm

By: Bryna Sim

TIN PEI LING may have had a rough start to her campaign trail.

But the youngest People's Action Party (PAP) candidate at 27-years-old showed that she was no "xiao mei mei" (Chinese for little sister) when she went on her walkabout without her other team members and then delivered her rally speech on Saturday night.

The New Paper's Bryna Sim followed Ms Tin on her walkabout - from the Haig Road wet market to Ms Tin's home and then to the rally at Geylang East Central - and also asked about that infamous Kate Spade bag.

5 questions with: Tin Pei Ling and Nicole Seah
The full Q&A with the rookie PAP and NSP candidates for Marine Parade GRC
by Sheralyn Tay and Tan Weizhen 05:35 AM May 01, 2011
What is the single biggest concern you have about Singapore?

Ms Tin Pei Ling: The single biggest concern I have for Singapore is the long term sustainability of the development of Singapore. I think there are a few dimensions to it. First and foremost while we don't want to just focus on the economy, I think it is very important because without the overall success of the economy, we won't have jobs for our people. Without jobs, without income, it is very hard for Singaporeans to lead a good quality of life or to even survive. If you ask me what is the biggest concern, it is the survival of Singapore; not just domestically, but regionally and internationally. It is about ensuring there are jobs and a future for Singaporeans - for us, our children and our children's children

Ms Nicole Seah: I think the single biggest concern I have about Singapore, and this is the same concern that propelled me to join the Opposition, is the fact that we are growing so fast economically as a nation and in the process we are leaving many Singaporeans behind. I think that the aim of a government is to look out for the welfare of the people. I'm not advocating a welfare state where people become overly dependent but I think the current approach to taking care of the disenfranchised in society is minimalist, and I think that a lot more can be done to at least ensure that their basic needs are being met.

At what point would you draw the line between useful online criticism and ranting you would ignore?

Ms Tin: For online discussions, if it is for personal stuff, then I think these can be put aside. What is more important is the discussion of issues. There is a lot of space and potential to do that online. Many of the younger generation spend a lot of time online, and this is an avenue whereby it would be useful to engage the younger ones. Because online is anytime, anywhere you have connection - 3G for example, you can do it anywhere. I think it is an important area that we should not neglect. At the same time what is on the ground is very important. Physically we are here, the problems municipally are here. We see for ourselves, we hear for ourselves, we talk to residents. I think that is very important, so I would not say online is the sole important avenue.

Ms Seah: I am very mindful of all the comments I receive online. I know that a lot of them are quite positive, but at the same time I do pay very strong attention to the neutral or the negative comments because I feel they have identified my gaps and that is how I can improve. However I draw the line at personal attacks; I draw the line at comments that doubt my capability based on very personal things such as the way I talk, the way I dress, the way I look. These are things that I do not entertain as constructive feedback.

I would not respond to such comments at all. I haven't had the time to respond to all the comments but I do take note of the constructive feedback, and I do work it into the way I present myself. For example, there have been quite a few comments saying, 'all of you have correctly identified the problems facing Singapore today as a result of the policies, but what are the proposals to counter this?'. This is something I have been trying to formulate - we already have a manifesto in place but I need to share more of our manifesto at the rally so as to let people know what our solutions are, and that alternative parties do have viable solutions to be presented.

Should the voting age be lowered?

Ms Tin: It is a matter of calibration. Where do you draw the line? For now it has always been set at 21. Perhaps we can commission a study and see at which point - from a human development point of view - is a person mature enough to decide for the long term. As long as you are clear about what you want in the future, that is the right age. Twenty-one is probably an arbitrary criteria, in my view. If you ask me whether it should go up or go down, I can't say for sure until there is a study done.

Ms Seah: I think it's a pity that even at the university level there are many who are still quite politically apathetic, or at least that was the feeling I got from my time at NUS. I think in other developed democracies there are a lot of kids who take an interest in politics at a younger age. But I think the tide is changing, I think this elections there are younger Singaporeans who are not eligible to vote but they are already concerned about the issues at hand. They are taking the time to read up and find out more. That's a very encouraging sign.

I feel that in junior college and polytechnic level, the kind of learning they go through is based on a lot of questioning, a lot of reasoning, a lot of critical thinking. I think by then they should be able to develop their political views already. It would be a pity if at age 18 they are mature enough to think critically about other things but yet politics is still off limits to them. I do think that the voting age should be lowered to 18.

What do you think constituents above the age of 50 are most worried about?

Ms Tin: There are two things. One is in terms of the infrastrucure. The elderly are physically older, so the way they move is slower and they need a lot of care and attention. We need to make sure that their access to amenties and facilties is easy. In Macpherson we have done a lot of upgrading in the past years, and we have almost completed all the barrier-free access across Macperhson to help our elderly move around, interact with people and better use the facilities and services. The other thing is to help them cope with the cost of living. Many are retired or retiring. Especially those who are retired, they have no source of income. A lot of them come from lower income families so they are also struggling to make ends meet. So financially, it can be a challenge. I think these are the two areas of concern. It is not just in Macpherson, but nationally as well.

Ms Seah: After doing our rounds the feedback we have gotten is that old people are very worried about falling ill. I think they are starting to recognise that healthcare costs are getting more and more exorbitant in Singapore. As a result they are very afraid to fall sick and be a burden to their families. On top of that the rising cost of living is another issue. This eats into their daily expenses for their very staple necessities, like the food they need to eat at the hawker centres, things like that. So I think that they do feel the pinch that has arisen from the recent inflation and tax increases.

(To Ms Tin) What do you appreciate most about the Opposition today?

Ms Tin: I think they are definitely more more courageous today. I can see that out of the 87 seats, 82 are contested. I think that is a good sign. Having a contest is something we should encourage. At the end of the day it is a contest of ideas. We should definitely give the option to Singaporeans. It is also in a way a report card of the party as well, to see if we have done well in the past years. I think it is something that is valuable and important

(To Ms Seah) What do you appreciate the most about the PAP today?

Ms Seah: I think one thing we cannot deny - they have developed Singapore from a small fishing village to a robust economy. And I think they have done a good job putting Singapore on the world map, so events such as F1 have drummed up a fair bit of interest overseas. I do feel the spillover effect as a result of this, where you have tourists coming in, making use of the amenities. I do still feel that more can be done for the local merchants during this time, as there are some people who still complain traffic to their shops remains slow during this period and it affects their business. So I think more measures can be put in place. But overall, events like F1 have done well to raise the visibility of Singapore as a country.

I was a failed junior. 因为我不想做个failed senior as well.

I want the best for everyone. Retaining in JC1 definitely isn't one that i want to see AT ALL.

SYF Rehearsal at Singapore Conference Hall

Today we had rehearsal at Singapore Conference Hall. Woke up at 630am, reached school at bout 730am. Went up Guzheng Room to retrieve the glock casing. Gosh, spent about half an hour cos of all the shutters and taking the wrong keys.

Helped Louis to do the checklist of instruments before going to change. Took quite some time to get my contact lens on though. LOL. then went into LT4 to packed bag and took a few photos before leaving for SCH. helped the cello ppl to move their instruments into the bus.

We arrived there and had to wait cos they'll only open the doors at 930am SHARP. so me and ms tan talked abit as well as deanna, shiwee and yuxin. ALOT alumni came today! Got Haoqi, Yongsiang, Sebastian, Huiquan, zhiwen, julian, junxi, simon etc. Had a short but funny convo with Haoqi before leaving school for SCH. then ziyang was not here with us physically but his 精神 is! He lent me his precious 鼓棒stand. hehe.

We took a pretty long time setting up instruments on stage and ding scolded us. oh wells, started practice and lasted till 12.25nn. Left for school and just before leaving SCH, something happened and i was pissed. But i must say Deanna was funny! haha.

Then went back, unloaded the instruments and went to change. Decided that the percussion ppl will go eat lunch together with The seniors. Deanna leh! of course must eat with them la. Once in dont know how many years. Deanna decided to wait for the J1s although she was soooo hungry to the extent of going to faint liao. So nice hor. So Yongsiang, Haoqi, Simon, yuxin and deanna waited together with the daji ppl for the J1s while they wento change.

Unfortunately, lunch didnt turn out as expected and in the end, only me, yuxin, zhiming louis, simon, junxi, yongsiang dapao food back to school to eat. Then rushed to LT3 to watch our recording before heading back to LT4 for practice! Ding no voice liao so she used mike! then we practiced till 530pm. Ding left while michelle asked everyone to practice the 布朗鼓 part. then daji had a mini practice session with simon and yuxin telling us our problems and flaws. then hide the instrument in LT4.
