Sunsilk Academy Fantasia: Musical Night

Battle of the Top 7: Musical!
The concert began with Summer Nights by the Top 7. The whole performance had the retro feeling and I must say all 7 of them shined like stars. Their dance was quite cute and there was some story line in their presentation of the song.
Judges for the night: Xiao Han, Wu Jiaming and George
Chloe started with The Winner Takes It All. Overall, her voice was not too bad and she managed to portray what she wanted to show the audience. It really reflected her emotions of being part of this competition and I felt that it was pretty good. But, the emotions could be brought out even better if she had more confidence.
Zhang Chi sung the famous 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. Honestly, when he was singing the verse, he looked like he was just reciting lyrics. It was only until the chorus when he started dancing that he managed to bring the atmosphere up. I must applaud his effort in trying to put off some dance moves but from a more professional perspective, his dance moves just can't make it. In terms of voice, no doubt about his good control and stability. His "I love you, baby" was the best few lines for the entire song. Also, I must say his pronounciation was good, considering that he haven't learnt english before.
Vee brought us 'Part of the World'. Firstly, she has indeed improve much from the past 2 weeks. She had much more confidence and her voice had slightly more stability. However, her pitch was almost constantly off for the whole song. No doubt interwining singing and talking at the same time may have affected her, but judging from previous rounds, it looks more like a serious problem that she would have to fix quickly if she want to make it through to the finals.
Huixian sung 'Hopelessly Devoted To You'. I am really amazed by her singing. She really told us (the audience) her inner emotions through her singing. You can really feel that there's a stubborn character who hurts so much, yet chooses to remain strong on the outer. However, I do agree with Xiao Han's comments that some of her notes are too short (following her hand movements). Also, her voice did not have as much clarity as the weeks before. Could be due to tiredness?
Junyang's 'Sandy' sounded like "Shandy" instead. BUT, his hardwork and improvement is definitely commendable. He really has improved alot and despite not having sung an english song before, he put up a good fight tonight. A pity was that his pronounciations were pretty horrifying. Many parts were inaudible to the audience. He surely have to improve in this area to moved on in this industry!
ET's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight' was really good. First time hearing him pull through a slow song and it was really touching. Yes, I definitely can feel the love. However, perhaps he opened up too early, the end lacked layering. He could possibly have had more emotions in the last chorus. Nevertheless, he was good.
Irwin's "I Have A Dream" was average. He maintained his usual standard but lacked surprise this week.   There were many possible areas of improvement such as "Qi Yin" that Wu Jiaming mentioned. Overall, it was just another usual performance from him.
The contestants were allowed to walk to the edge of the stage to have some interactions with their families and friends. Only briefly told my dear girl to jiayou and love her cos she had limited time...

So the results were out and Chloe and Junyang were eliminated for this round. It's down to Top 5 next week! Stay tuned for more updates about the competition!

Met my beloved junior, Sophia! Now J2 already.. time flies....
Took a trip down memory lane. Visited the board of the CCA i founded.... Really flowery..
Yating, reg and I went into the smaller haunted house since the music room one was really crowded. My virgin Haunted House experience....Although I didn't support her haunted house, still went to say hi and bye. heh.
We walked back to the basketball court to finish our last 3 coupons. and...
I met her! Achievement unlocked: we chatted for at least 5 mins face-to-face, longest in the last 3 years! haha nevertheless, I do miss her classes and chatting with her. Looking forward to our delayed lunch appointment. 121212 hopefully!

First week in NUS

Started my first week in NUS by attending fledging dry run on sunday evening. We learnt how to fold cranes and went through several activities that were going to be carried out.
Met Hayden, Hui Min and Benjamin for supper after the dry run ended. We left utown at 11pm and walked all the way to temasek hall to fetch hayden before walking further to ameen! literally exercising before accumulating fats. haha. We headed back to central forum to drop hayden off before the 3 of us walked back to utown. Hui min and I brought Ben up to our rooms to have a look before we ended the night.
1st day of school was a quick breakfast before meeting ben and ended up walking to fass from utown. feel so bad to make him walk so far cos he waited for me... Fledging started and it was alright i guess. we took polaroids to put on the face walls in angsana.
We wrote 5 things we wanna accomplish during our stay in angsana on a piece of colored paper before folding it into a crane!
I kinda skipped the next 2 days of fledging and back on thursday night. While I had the intention to sleep... it was taken up by dinner chat with chin hong, skipping chat with sarah and stella, piano session with joshua, passing mno book to hayden at town green and eventually, reg came to my room to wait for chin hong. Ended up, didn't do much for fledging. The neighbourhood came into our suite though. It was a huge mess after that, seriously.
My henna was done in 1 min! haha stella drew this for me. I didn't really like the idea of henna but just did it for the sake of doing it... Branding, they call it
We were forced to attend a briefing at 1130pm before SS revealation. Since I wasn't in school most of the past 2 days, I didn't do much for fledging. Wrote a note to both my SS just before dinner and met them a few hours later. haha. one of them was a dutch student on exchange! he was really cool and not bad-looking too. He gave me a donald duck comic book and a pack of dutch candies!
Okay as for today..... Completed my balloting before heading down for breakfast. Met sarah and bryan who had just finished theirs. I Just sat down for awhile when the fire alarm rang but we decided to jsut stay put... Kai Lin and Phoebe shortly after the alarm went off.

Headed to the room to pack my bag before meeting hayden at central forum to get my GL textbooks! Was a short meeting and this guy actually summarized what was happening in the whatsapp groups to me. haha. thanks bro!

Went back to my room to slack awhile and repacked my bag before setting off for buona vista. The bus stop was surprising quiet and.... I was surprised to see this phone on the seat.. Couldn't decide whether I should take the phone or not. Eventually, my mum asked me to hold on to it first and wait for the owner to call up. Met Wai Lin, Judy and Joseleen at the market and had my usual hakka noodles! Hahaha Judy was joking about how i signed a membership with them.

Talked to wai lin at the building's lobby as usual, after she helped me refill my bottle. :) left for tanjong pagar to return the phone at 2pm and for piano lesson! I quite like having piano on friday afternoons. Went to fetch my bro before heading home and playing badminton! haha we had 5 sets of games which was fun.

That's more or less about my 1st week of official school!

First Tuesday in NUS

Photo
We didn't have any tutorial lessons yet so my tuesday was really free. Spend the morning with sam and her mum. They came over to explore utown abit. Treated them to breakfast and brought them around. Brought sam to forum bookstore to get her NUS shirt as well.
After they left, I bought my textbooks and went to the econs recruitment walkway with yanru before heading out to buona vista to meet melissa for lunch. Had a short catch-up session. Indeed, it seems like I have never left. haha.

Went back to utown to rest for awhile before meeting yanru, the ECS president and vice-president for a chat. was kind of like an interview actually. It ended in about 10 mins and I happen to see the econs gang. After hanging around for awhile, decided to bring them to my suite to see see. We had a short slacking session there before I treated yiting, yuanzhen and supposedly kenneth to dinner. However, I didn't knw there's a quota of 3 per meal time so... kenneth only had salad and drink..

After dinner, I walked yi ting out to the busstop while trying to convince her to come utown. haha. Had a CAC management intro chat with chin hong before attempting to go for fledging. It was way too boring so I left for home at 1030pm.

National Day 2012

Travelled down to bedok to meet Wai Lin for macs breakfast! I was late cos the bus took so long to come but luckily she waited for me! Wanted to use her coupon but...they didn't accept.

We walked around some shops at bedok central before gg fairprice. haha i bought 2 cans of coconut juice and 1 coconut. Coconut-fied. Intro her the thailand coconuts that I really like. She actually googled about coconuts and apparently, its very beneficial. Like.... can help lose weight. haha. But to me the main effect is still to cool me down.

Anyway, walked around awhile more before my parents came. Ate with them at the market. Alot food seriously. 2 plates of carrot cake, chwee kueh, hokkien mee and oyster egg. Sinful much cos it's so oily but nevertheless, it was good food!

Went to fairprice AGAIN, but this time round, i bought some stuff and essentials for my room. Home-d after that where I watched Sunsilk Academy Fantasia's vocal lessons. Still love huixian's voice very much.hehe

We headed to I12 to get some food before dad drove to NUS. Showed mt parents around my room and played around before heading to toa payoh for crab beehoon!

Kinda missed the first part of NDP and managed to only see the marching groups leaving. But... I said the pledge and sung the national anthem really loudly. like omg.. really long time since I did that! Fond memories. haha.

That's about it. A really slack national day.

Happy National Day to all! =D

Singapore facts

Since it's national day today, I shall talk about some facts about the place we live in - Singapore.

Have you ever wondered how Holland Village got its name?
Hollandv.JPG

Well, many thought that it must be due to some infuence from the country Holland but... no.
Holland Road was named after Hugh Holland, who was an architect, amateur actor and most importantly, an early resident in the holland village area. Subsequently, Holland Village was named as well.

Do you know the evolution of Singapore's worldclass university - National University of Singapore?

It started out by being a medical school in 1904 before it's name was changed to King Edward VII Medical school after they received funds from the King Edward VII Memorial Fund.

Raffles College was established in 1913 and the 2 schools merged to form University of Malaya in 1949.

Legislation was passed in 1961 where the kuala lumper division continued the name of University of Malaya while the Singapore division renamed itself as the University of Singapore.

In 1980, Nanyang University and University of Singapore merged and formed the current National University of Singapore.

Did you know that Lee Kuan Yew had sung 4 different national anthems in his life?

1) God Save the Queen - British Colony
2) Kimigayo -  Japanese Occupation
3) Negaraku - Malaysia
4) Majulah Singapura - Singapore's official anthem.
